Promoting social and emotional learning in Secondary Schools
This 8-page article, published in February 2014 by the Center for Youth Voice in Policy and Practice, provides a comprehensive, easy-to-read summary of an investigation of social and emotional learning in U.S. secondary schools, based on research conducted in 5 U.S. high schools where SEL was intentionally and inextricably linked to academic learning, by design. In unpacking why and how the integration of SEL transformed student, teacher and climate outcomes in these schools, the authors describe six key elements that were present across schools, and the specific actions/activities that were taken to support these elements.
